After splitting a doubleheader of seven-inning games at Indianapolis’s Victory Field Friday evening, the Columbus Clippers came back to take a lead in Saturday night’s contest and held on for a 4-3 win.
It was an important game for Clippers’ starter Logan Allen (1-0), who had just been sent to Columbus by the Cleveland Guardians to make room for Spencer Howard, recently acquired from San Francisco.
It was the first Triple-A start for Allen this season after appearing in 18 games for the Guardians. He acquitted himself well, picking up the win. He went five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and striking out seven.
The offense for the Clippers came primarly from Christian Cairo who knocked in two runs in the fifth inning with his second triple of the year. Johnathon Rodriguez and Raynel Delgado also had RBIs for the Clips.
The Columbus relief corps allowed only one run on three hits in their four innings of work. Andrew Walters earned his fourth save of the season, throwing a perfect ninth, including two punch-outs.
The Clippers and Indians finish up their series Sunday with a game scheduled to begin at 1:35 p.m. at Victory Field.
