MEN’S TENNIS CAPTURES 17th BIG TEN TITLE

The Ohio State men’s tennis team, ranked #1 in the country, beat Michigan, 4-1, in Evanston, Ill. to record their 17th Big Ten title. The Buckeyes are 37-5 against their rivals since head coach Ty Tucker was hired. OSU’s Cannon Kingsley, JJ Tracy, and Jack Anthrop won their singles matches Sunday, while the doubles point was claimed with victories from Kingsley/Anthrop and Andrew Lutschaunig/Justin Boulais. The Buckeyes find out Monday whom they will host in the NCAA tourney beginning Friday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS IS BIG 10 TOURNEY RUNNER-UP

Sunday in Ann Arbor, for the fourth year in a row, the Ohio State and Michigan women’s tennis teams faced off in the Big Ten tournament finals. Michigan ended the Buckeyes’ 12-match winning streak, recording a 4-2 victory for the title. Freshman Luciana Perry and junior Shelly Bereznyak won their singles matches for the Buckeyes. Undefeated in their singles and combined doubles play, Perry and graduate student Irina Cantos Siemers were named to the all-tournament team.

MEN’S GOLF FINISHES FIFTH IN BIG TEN TOURNEY AT SCIOTO

The Ohio State men’s golf team finished fifth in the 54-hole Big Ten tournament at Scioto Country Club. Northwestern finished first, 23 strokes ahead of Illinois. Northwestern sophomore Daniel Svärd took medalist honors, shooting 211 (+1), one stroke better than Illinois junior Jackson Buchanan. Coming off his top amateur finish at the Masters, OSU graduate student Neil Shipley finished fifth, shooting 217 (+7). The Buckeyes find out Wednesday where they will play in the NCAA Regionals.

BASEBALL TAKES MICHIGAN STATE SERIES FINALE AT HOME

The Ohio State baseball team (20-20) came from behind twice to beat Michigan State (19-21) in Columbus Sunday, 10-6, and take the final game of the weekend series. Five different Buckeyes had multi-hit games with Hunter Rosson and Henry Kaczmar knocking home runs. Blaine Wynk picked up his first win of the season in relief. Ohio State hosts two non-conference games this week – Cincinnati on Tuesday and Akron on Wednesday – before traveling to Illinois for a weekend series.

SOFTBALL GIVES UP LATE LEAD AGAINST ILLINOIS

The Illinois softball team (20-28) scored eight runs in the final two innings of its game at Ohio State (29-18) Sunday to beat the Buckeyes, 11-6, and put an end to the Scarlet and Gray’s nine-game winning streak. Four Buckeyes – Kirsten Eppele, Kaitlyn Farley, Taylor Heckman (Utica), and Kami Kortokrax (Bishop Hartley) – hit home runs in their final home game of the regular season. Ohio State plays a three-game series at Michigan next weekend to conclude its regular-season away schedule.

TENNIS TEAMS FIND OUT ABOUT POSTSEASON

On Monday, both men’s and women’s tennis teams will learn where and whom they will be playing to begin the NCAA tournament. The men’s squad, ranked #1 in the country, will most likely be hosting matches in the first two rounds, while the #12 women’s team may also host the first two rounds as one of the top 16 seeds.

The men’s bracket will be announced Monday at 6:00 p.m. EDT, with the women’s bracket being announced at 6:30 p.m. EDT, both on NCAA.com. The opening rounds start Friday.
