It was a productive week for the Columbus Clippers. They beat visiting Memphis 10-3 Sunday afternoon to win five of their six-game series with the Redbirds. The only loss for Columbus came Thursday when Memphis beat the Clips by just one run, 6-5.

The Clippers fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third inning, but rebounded to score three in the bottom of the frame. Johnathan Rodriguez singled to knock in a run, followed by an RBI single from Gabriel Arias. The third run came home on a fielding error by the Memphis defense.

Columbus scored two more in the fourth. Dom Nuñez homered to lead off the inning, his fourth roundtripper of the season. Later in the inning, Kyle Manzardo picked up his 38th RBI of the campaign with a sacrifice fly.

The Redbirds added a run in the fifth inning. Columbus responded with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-2 lead. Arias hit his first home run for the Clippers this season in the fifth, while Raynel Delgado stole home in the sixth.

Memphis posted its final run of the game in the seventh inning. Not to be outdone, the Clippers pushed three across in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Delgado singled to drive in two runs, then Juan Brito doubled to bring in one.

Logan Allen (2-0) earned the win, going six innings and giving up two runs on five hits and two walks. He did not record a strikeout. The loss went to Memphis reliever Connor Thomas (3-4). The Redbirds’ defense committed three errors on the afternoon, resulting in three unearned runs.

The Clippers have the day off Monday, but continue their homestand with six games against the Syracuse Mets beginning Tuesday. Lefty Will Dion is slated to take the mound for Columbus in the opener. Game time Tuesday is set for 7:05 p.m.
