Clippers score early and hold on to beat Indians

The Columbus Clippers won the first two games of their home series against the Indianapolis Indians this week. The Indians came back to win the next two. On Saturday, the Clippers took the series lead with a 6-3 victory.
Columbus got on the board first when Myles Straw knocked in a run in the second inning with a sacrifice fly. The Clippers scored again in the third. Juan Brito drove in Raynel Delgado with his 31st double of the season.
Indianapolis posted a run in the top of the fourth inning, but Columbus responded in their half of the fourth with a solo home run from George Valera, his 15th long ball of the campaign. At the end of four, it was 3-1, Clippers.
In the sixth inning, Columbus took a commanding lead, crossing the plate three times. Johnathan Rodriguez led off the inning with a homer, his team-leading 19th of the season. Gabriel Arias followed with a round-tripper of his own, his fifth after joining the Clippers. Angel Ramírez rounded out the scoring in the sixth with a sac fly.
The Indians scored a run in the seventh and another in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough. The win went to Ryan Webb (2-0), who allowed one run on a solo home run. He gave up five hits, no walks, and struck out two in five innings. He has allowed only three runs in 16 innings of work with Columbus. The loss went to Aaron Shortridge (1-3).
The Clippers and Indians wind up their six-game series with a game Sunday beginning at 1:05 p.m. Doug Nikhazy (4-2) will take the mound for Columbus and will face Luis Cessa (4-4).
