The Columbus Clippers have not lost a series since the beginning of June. This week’s set against the Indianapolis Indians kept the streak alive. The Clippers locked down at least a tie with Saturday night’s win, then took the series with a 5-2 victory Sunday.

Juan Brito started the Columbus scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, his 17th long ball of the season. The Indians responded with two runs in the second to take the lead. Clippers’ starter Zak Kent gave up both runs, but only one was earned after a fielding error by second baseman Angel Martínez.

Columbus grabbed the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning. Chase DeLauter picked up his first Triple-A RBI when he doubled to drive in Brito, who had doubled to lead off the inning. Three batters and two outs later, George Valera hit his 16th homer of the campaign with DeLauter crossing the plate ahead of him.

The Clippers finished off the scoring in the fifth with another Brito RBI. He singled to drive in Martínez, who had doubled with two outs in the inning. The loss went to Luis Cessa (4-5). Cessa gave up all of the Clips’ runs in his 5.2 innings of work.

Columbus reliever, and usual starter, Doug Nikhazy (5-2) earned the win, blanking the Indians with his 4.2 innings on the mound. Andrew Misiaszek and Franco Aleman rounded out the relief effort for the Clippers without allowing a run.

Columbus has a day off Monday, then heads to suburban Atlanta to take on the Gwinnett Stripers in a six-game series beginning Tuesday at Coolray Field. Logan Allen (3-1) will take the hill for the Clippers then.
