The Ohio State men’s basketball team (17-13, 9-10) is on the very edge of possibly qualifying for the NCAA tournament. Much depends upon their final games of the regular season and the Big Ten tournament after that.
On Tuesday at Value City Arena, it was senior night, the Buckeyes last home game of the season. Only a tilt at Indiana on Saturday remains in Big Ten regular season play. Tuesday’s contest against the visiting Nebraska Cornhuskers (17-13, 7-12), also in a bubble position, took two overtimes to decide a winner, with Ohio State standing at the end with a 116-114 victory.
Four of OSU’s starters scored 20 points or more in the contest. Bruce Thornton paced the Buckeyes with 29. Miccah Parrish and Pickerington Central’s Devin Royal added 22 points each. John Mobley, Jr. scored 20.
While both teams shot better than 50% from the field, they missed a combined 20 free throws on the night. It was the first time in 21 such games that Ohio State won when giving up more than 100 points.
The game Saturday in Bloomington tips off at 3:45 p.m. The Hoosiers (18-12, 9-10) had a three-game winning streak snapped in Eugene. Ore. Tuesday, with the Ducks prevailing 73-64.
IU Head Coach Mike Woodson has already announced that he will step down following the season. Indiana is led on the court by redshirt senior Oumar Ballo, a transfer from Gonzaga who played at Arizona before that.
