The No. 17-ranked Ohio State men’s volleyball team (12-10, 7-5) began their final homestand of the season with a 3-2 win over No. 10 McKendree (15-6, 10-2) at the Covelli Center Thursday.
The Buckeyes won the first two sets against the Bearcats – 25-18 and 26-24 – with the second going to overtime. McKendree responded, capturing the next two sets – 25-19 and 25-20. Ohio State took control of the deciding set, winning it 15-9, to take the match.
Freshman Stanislaw Chacinski paced the Buckeyes with 21 kills and was second with two aces and 13 digs. Freshman Daniel Henwood Rodriguez led Ohio State with 50 assists and 14 digs. Senior Cole Young, an Olentangy Liberty alum, and junior Shane Wetzel had three blocks each. Wetzel had three aces.
The Buckeyes welcome MIVA rival Ball State (16-8, 8-3) into the Covelli Center next Thursday night with the first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Lewis University (18-7, 8-4) then comes to Columbus Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. match.
