It doesn’t matter what the sport is when Otterbein and Capital play. The OAC arch-rivals play for the “Oar” whenever they engage in competition. Such was the case Saturday when the schools’ baseball teams stepped on the diamond in Bexley.

The Cardinals opened the twin bill with a 6-4 win and then maintained their possession of the hallowed nautical trophy with a 13-9 victory. Otterbein went to 12-10, 2-2 on the season. Capital is now 10-14, 1-3.

Otterbein’s offense was fueled by sophomore Nolan Jones who posted four hits and four runs batted in on the day, Grad Jamie Perebzak, who was named as the OAC Player of the Year in 2024, homered and knocked in three runs in the second game.

Senior reliever Bryson Bell, a Newark Catholic alum, picked up the win in the first game, while sophomore Brady Heagan earned his second save. Junior Sam Sethna, a Teays Valley grad, posted the win in game two.

Capital was led by junior catcher Robby Harrison who had six hits, including two doubles and a triple, and four runs batted while playing both games behind the plate. Junior Ty Clifton, a Grove City alum, and senior Ryne McKinney hit home runs for the Comets.

Otterbein plays next on Tuesday when the Ohio Northern Polar Bears come to Clowson Field in Westerville. Capital plays two at Wilmington on the same day.
