After being shut out in Toronto Saturday, the Columbus Blue Jackets were right back at it, taking on the Senators in Ottawa Sunday.

The Blue Jackets gave up two early goals and couldn’t muster any offense, falling to the Sens 4-0. Just when the Jackets needed wins to get back in the playoff picture, they have suddenly collapsed on both ends of the ice.

The Senators recorded two quick goals in the first period Sunday. Adam Gaudette scored just 2:24 into the game, with Nikolas Matinpalo adding his first goal of the season just two minutes later.

After the second score, Columbus goaltender Daniil Tarasov was pulled in favor of Elvis Merzlikins. It was only the second time this season that head coach Dean Evason has replaced his goalie during a game. The first was this past Thursday when Merzlikins left early in the third period after giving up seven goals to Colorado.

Ottawa added two goals in the third period. David Perron scored less than five minutes into the frame and Shane Pinto hit an empy net with less than a minute to play. Both teams had 30 shots on goal, but Ottawa goaltender Linus Ullmark stopped everything that came his way for his fourth shutout of the season.

The Blue Jackets and the Senators play their third game in 11 days, when the Sens travel to Columbus for a tilt Tuesday at Nationwide Arena. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:00 p.m.
