The Columbus Clippers were looking for offense at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Penn. Wednesday. The night before they managed just three runs in the ninth inning against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and fell 7-3. It actually got worse Wednesday as the Clips knocked out just four hits in a 2-1 loss to the IronPigs.

Columbus scored its lone run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead when Micah Pries tripled, then came home on a balk. Lehigh Valley got another quality start in the second game of the six-game series. Mick Abel (2-2) went seven innings, allowing a run on four hits and striking out four. Max Lazar tossed a perfect ninth inning and earned his third save.

Ryan Webb started for the Clippers and went 4.2 innings, allowing a run on three hits and striking out five. The relief corps – Bradley Hanner, Cody Bolton, and Parker Mushinski – allowed a run on two hits in their combined 4.1 innings. Bolton (1-1) suffered his first loss, allowing the IronPigs’ second run in the eighth inning.

The teams play again Thursday at 6:15 p.m. Vince Velasquez (0-0, 5.73) will take the mound for the Clippers and will face Nabil Crismatt (3-1, 3.43), who has won two in a row.

EXTRA BASES:
