The Columbus Fury went to Omaha Friday to take on the top team in the PVF standings. The Supernovas came into the match having, uncharacteristically, lost two of their last three outings. The Fury took Omaha to a fifth set, but lost that set 15-9 to fall 3-2.

Fury middle blocker Janice Leao lived up to her position’s title in Friday’s match, posting eight blocks to set a franchise single-game record. The two-year pro played last year for Criollas de Caguas in Puerto Rico after competing at the University of Miami for five years. She grew up in New Bedford, Mass.

Kaylee Cox led the Fury with 16 kills. Setter Nootsara TomKom recorded 30 assists and Paula Cerame had 25 digs. Captain Megan Lush had another solid all-around match with 13 kills, 11 digs, three assists, and a serving ace.

Columbus has two matches remaining in the regular season, both on the road. The Fury are at San Diego Thursday and Vegas a week from Sunday.
