The Columbus Crew’s only loss this season was last Saturday against Inter Miami in Cleveland. The Black & Gold fell 1-0, failing to score on 16 shot attempts. This Saturday, they were back in the friendly confines of Lower.com Field, hosting the San Jose Earthquakes. Again, they missed on good chances, but came away with a 2-1 win.

Midfielder Sean Zawadzki got the Crew on the board in the 29th minute. Diego Rossi had a free kick from outside the left edge of the box. His looping pass went by a Stephen Moreira header attempt and found Zawadzki at the right post for the score, his first goal of the season.

San Jose tied the score in the 40th minute when Josef Martinez found himself unguarded in the left side of the box and chipped it past a charging Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte for the score.

The Black & Gold posted the winning goal in the second half at the 62′ mark. Aziel Jackson led the attack in the middle of the Quakes’ zone. His pass to Max Arfsten in the left side of the box allowed the midfielder to maneuver in traffic, then get the ball on his left foot for a line-drive kick over the defense and into the net.

DeJuan Jones, who was traded by the Crew to San Jose Tuesday, did see action against his former teammates when he entered the match in the 65th minute. He came to Columbus last season in a trade with the New England Revolution.

With the win, the Crew move into the second spot in the MLS’s Eastern Conference, just one point behind Cincinnati. The Black & Gold are back in action next Saturday, as they host Charlotte FC at Lower.com Field starting at 7:30 p.m. Charlotte fell at home Saturday to New England, 1-0.
