The Columbus Clippers returned home after winning just one game in their six-game series against Lehigh Valley in Allentown, Penn. last week. On Tuesday, they had a doubleheader scheduled against St. Paul to make up for a game that was rained out between the two in the second series of the year.
After the rain cleared out in time to get the first seven-inning contest started, the Clippers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Johnathan Rodriguez hit a two-run homer, his third long ball of the season. That was the last time that Columbus would score on the evening.
The Saints hit three round-trippers after that on solo shots from Carson McCusker in the fourth and Anthony Prato in the fifth, and a two-run bomb from Mike Ford in the sixth. That gave St. Paul a 4-2 lead, which would be the final score.
Clippers starter Ryan Webb gave up the first two home runs in his five innings of work. He allowed only two other hits and struck out six. Bradley Hanner (3-2) suffered the loss in his one inning of work when he gave up the Saints final homer.
The rains returned right after conclusion of the game and the nightcap was canceled. No makeup date was announced for that contest. The teams are back at it Wednesday with a single game scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
