It looked bleak for the Columbus Crew late in their match at Philadelphia Saturday. The Black & Gold were down 2-1 in the third minute of stoppage time when a corner kick from Dylan Chambost was initially headed sideways by Diego Rossi, finding Sean Zawadzki at the left post. Zawadzki split a double-team to get to the ball and chipped it past Union goalkeeper Andrew Rick for the 2-2 draw.
Philadelphia scored first in the match. In the 54th minute, Tai Baribo scored on a pass from Quinn Sullivan, who ran down the pitch to play a long free kick from Rick. Columbus tied things at 1-1 seven minutes later when Max Arfsten took a cross-pitch past from Chambost and went across the goal mouth with a driving kick into the right side of the net.
At the 64th minute, Francis Westfield gave the Union the lead back with his first goal of the season. He took a pass from Baribo, who was falling in the penalty box, back to the top of the box and drilled a kick for the score. The nets stayed empty for the next thirty minutes until Zawadzki evened the match for good. It was the second goal of the season for the home-grown, Olmsted Falls native.
With the draw, the Crew stay atop the MLS’s Eastern Conference, tied with Cincinnati and two points ahead of Philadelphia. The Black & Gold continue their road trip with a contest Wednesday against CF Montréal at Stade Saputo in Quebec. The action gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
