The Columbus Crew returned home after suffering just their second loss of the MLS season in Charlotte Sunday. On Wednesday, they welcomed Nashville SC to Lower.com Field. The Coyotes had not lost in their previous eight contests. The Crew battled from behind most of the night, but Nashville helped, equalizing the match at 2-2 with an own goal in the 81st minute.
The Crew came into the contest having not won since May 3rd. Against Nashville, they were without their starting goalkeeper, Patrick Schulte, who was missing his second straight match. Schulte did not play against Charlotte after suffering an injury in warm-ups. The Crew did have defender Steven Moreira who went out early against Charlotte.
Nashville posted an early score Wednesday when Sam Surridge beat the Crew’s back line, taking a pass from the right side and beating Crew keeper Nicholas Hagen with a quick touch to the left side of the net. It was 1-0 until the 69th minute. Diego Rossi chipped in a rebound off a Moreira shot from distance that Nashville goalkeeper Joe Willis could only deflect.

The Coyotes retook the lead just eight minutes later. Hany Mukhter played a carom off a save by Hagen and beat the defense for the score. Fortuntately for the Black & Gold, Nashville also scored to equalize the match when Jeisson Palacios, who was battling for position in front of his goal, sent it off the right post and into the net.
Despite good chances for both squads as time wound down, the match ended at 2-2. It was the Black & Gold’s seventh draw in league play. Columbus and Nashville remain in a tie for third place in the MLS’s Eastern Conference behind Philadelphia and Cincinnati. Orlando City, which was also tied in third, lost at Atlanta United Wednesday and fell a spot.
The Crew go back on the road Saturday, playing Inter Miami at Chase Field. The match gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Miami beat the Crew, 1-0, at Cleveland’s Huntington Bank Field on April 19.
