The Toledo Mud Hens scored a run in the first inning against Columbus Clippers’ starter Ryan Webb. Webb was replaced in the second inning by Will Dion. Dion went the next four innings and did not allow a run. Three other Columbus relievers tossed a combined four scoreless innings and the Clips won, 2-1, Saturday at Huntington Park.
After Jace Jung’s double knocked in a run in the first inning, Toledo placed only three baserunners in scoring position over the next eight frames and did not bring any of them home. Zak Kent (1-2) went an inning for the Clippers and picked up his first win. Franco Aleman retired all three batters he faced in the ninth for his second save.
The Clippers managed to put together eight hits. The only one that mattered in the outcome was Milán Tolentino’s two-run homer in the sixth inning. Micah Pries scored ahead of him after walking to lead off the inning. The only other extra-base hits for Columbus were a double from Yordys Valdes and a triple from C.J. Kayfus.
The teams play the finale of their six-game series Sunday with the first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. Columbus’s Vince Velasquez (2-1, 3.35) and Toledo’s Wilkel Hernandez (1-2, 3.07) will face off as they did Tuesday in a game that the Clippers won 6-1.
