The Ohio State women’s hockey team saw six of its players drafted by the Professional Women’s Hockey League Tuesday night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Overall, 48 players were chosen by the league’s eight teams out of a pool of 192 draft-eligible women.
The PWHL was established in 2023 by The Mark Walter Group, which owns the league and all of its teams. Mark Walter is a well-known face in sports ownership. Among many other properties, he is part of the groups with controlling interests in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Spire Motorsports, and, most recently, the Los Angeles Lakers.
The league is composed of six original teams – the Montreal Victoire, Ottawa Charge, and Toronto Sceptres in Canada, and the Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, and New York Sirens in the United States. Beginning in 2025-26, the PWHL will add two expansion teams, PWHL Vancouver and PWHL Seattle.
