The #25 women Buckeyes (0-1-1) were coming off a 1-1 home draw with Clemson a week ago. In Thursday’s contest with South Carolina (3-0), OSU outshot the Gamecocks 13-10.

The lone goal of the match came in the sixth minute of the second half when South Carolina’s Mackenzie Johnson took a bouncing pass in front of the goal and headed the ball into the left corner of the net.

The Bucks stay in the Carolinas for their next contest, traveling to UNC Wilmington for a match Sunday at noon. The Seahawks (2-1) won 2-1 at Coastal Carolina Thursday. UNCW are led by sophomore midfielder Allie Planeaux. Fans can catch the action on FlowCollege.

Virginia Tech 1, Ohio State 0

Thursday’s match in Blacksburg was the first contest of the season for the #3-ranked men’s team (0-1). The Hokies (1-0) played solid defense throughout the match. Their lone goal came just before halftime when Colin Beutel took a pass in the box. His quick shot caromed off a sliding Buckeye defender and into the top part of the net.

Ohio State returns to Columbus for their home opener next Thursday against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies (0-1). The kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium and is part of this year’s Wolstein Classic. Dayton and Temple will also be in town to participate.
