On Saturday at Lower.com Field, the Columbus Crew were looking for their first MLS win in over a month. Unfortunately for the Black & Gold, the visiting New England Revolution had other ideas. The Revolution scored two goals in the first half and held on for a 2-1 victory in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 20,000 fans.

The match started with an offensive flurry from both sides, but New England  was the first to connect for a score. In the 25th minute, Leo Campana took a contested pass in front of the Columbus goal from Carles Gill and sent it past goalkeeper Patrick Schulte to take a 1-0 lead.

Six minutes before halftime, the Revolution made it 2-0 when Ignatius Ganago tracked down a long pass up the middle of the pitch, splitting defenders Sean Zawadzki and Stephen Moreira to gain possession and send a scoring shot over an advancing Schulte. New England took advantage of both of their scoring chances in the first half to lead by two.

The Crew were finally able to get on the board in the 71st minute of the contest. Malte Amundsen sent a pass into the box that found Daniel Gazdag for the score. It was Gazdag’s second goal since joining the Columbus roster. The first came in the July 19th victory on a penalty shot.

The Crew were once again without the services of their captain, Darlington Nagbe, who suffered a torso injury in a Leagues Cup match on August 5th. Mo Farsi was also scratched from the lineup with a pelvic injury. Newly-signed Wessam Abou Ali got into the match in the 56th minute to a great ovation, but did not get a shot.

The Crew are back in action next Saturday when they travel to the New York City-area to take on the Red Bulls in a match that kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.
