Four local colleges find tough sledding Saturday

Four CBUS-area college teams – Ohio Dominican, Capital, Otterbein, and Denison – were in action Saturday, but none were able to come away with a victory.

Walsh 14, Ohio Dominican 7
The Ohio Dominican Panthers (2-1) traveled to N. Canton for a key G-MAC matchup with the Walsh Cavaliers (4-0). ODU got on the board first on a Drew Gallehue throw to Joshua Moore, a Groveport grad, from 33 yards out with 3:27 remaining in the first half. That lead lasted until the fourth quarter when the Cavaliers scored twice and went on to win 14-7 to remain undefeated.

Marietta 24, Capital 21
The Marietta Pioneers (3-0, 2-0) had a 14-0 lead at halftime against the Capital Comets (1-2, 0-2) in Bexley. Capital scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to tie the game at 21-21, two on passes from Teays Valley grad Tyler Love to Wesley Armstead and one on a 75-yard run from Kassim Johnson. Marietta’s Nathaniel Demuth kicked a 30-yard field goal with two seconds left for the 24-21 win

Muskingum 37, Otterbein 13
The Otterbein Cardinals (0-3, 0-2) hosted the Muskingum Fighting Muskies (2-1, 2-0) in an OAC contest in Westerville. Muskingum took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on two Aaron Ortega field goals. After a Muskie touchdown, Otterbein scored on a 53-yard run by quarterback Brayden Bayles, a Heath alum. Muskingum then scored 27 straight points to seal the win.

Wabash 36, Denison 0
The Wabash Little Giants (4-0, 2-0) welcomed the Denison Big Red (1-2, 0-1) to Crawfordsville, Ind. for an NCAC game. Wabash amassed 476 yards of total offense on the afternoon and pitched a shutout on defense to remain undefeated. Denison running back Blayton Reid, a Logan Elm grad, paced the Big Red with six receptions out of the backfield and 31 yards rushing.
