The Ohio State men’s soccer team (5-4-0, 2-1-0) eked out a 2-1 victory over the visiting UCLA Bruins (2-5-2, 2-2-0) Monday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. It was 500th win in the program’s history. After the each team posted a penalty kick goal, OSU’s Ashton Bilow scored the game winner in the 63rd minute.

Ohio State got on the board first when Marko Borkovic scored on a penalty kick in the 29th minute. Borkovic, a senior from Maidenhead, England, is now tied for third in the Big Ten with five goals and 13 points. Only Palmer Ault of Indiana (8) and Joschi Schelb of Rutgers (7) have recorded more goals.

UCLA tied the match with a penalty shot of their own when Artem Vovk converted on the opportunity in the 62nd minute. Less than a minute later, Bilow scored on a line drive kick from outside the box off a helper from Luciano Pechota. The New Albany grad’s first goal of the season put the Buckeyes ahead for good.

The Buckeyes return to the pitch Friday when they host the Wisconsin Badgers (2-5-0, 2-3-0) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The match, which kicks off at 7:00 p.m., can be seen on the Big Ten+ network.
