After beating #6-ranked Cornell twice on the road last weekend, the #2 Ohio State women’s hockey team (4-0-0, 2-0-0) returned home for its first two WCHA conference games with Bemidji State Snow Sharks (0-4-0, 0-2-0). The Buckeyes won Friday, 6-0, and completed the sweep Saturday with a 2-1 victory.
In Friday’s shutout win, Ohio State scored four goals in the opening period to take a commanding lead. Two of the goals came from Jocelyn Amos, the first on the power play. Other Buckeyes scoring in the game were Sanni Vanhanen, Sloane Matthews, Jorden Petrie, and Sara Swiderski.
On Saturday, the Snow Sharks scored the first goal of the contest on a power play in the first period. Ohio State evened the score later in the frame when Emma Peschel scored 1:31 before the break. Hilda Svensson posted the game winner in the second period and the Buckeyes held on for the one-goal win.
Hailey MacLeod worked both games in the net for the Buckeyes and earned her first shutout of the season. She has recorded wins in all of OSU’s four games. Against Bemidji State, the senior from British Columbia made saves on 18 of 19 shots.
The Buckeyes travel to Minneapolis next weekend to take on the #3-ranked Minnesota Gophers (6-0-0, 2-0-0) in two contests. Saturday’s game at Ridder Arena gets underway at 2:00 p.m., with Sunday’s tilt also beginning at 2:00 p.m. Both contests can be seen on the Big Ten+ network.
