The #15-ranked Ohio State field hockey team (7-5, 3-1) had the best defensive performance of its season Sunday at Buckeye Varsity Field, limiting the #11 Michigan Wolverines (8-4, 3-2) to just two shots on goal and keeping them off the scoreboard to win, 1-0.

The Buckeyes also had just two shots on goal, but converted on one by Sienna Golden with 4:10 left in the second quarter. OSU’s Makenna Webster took possession in the midst of traffic in front of the Michigan goal and sent a lob toward the right post where Golden hit it out of the air to beat the shifting Wolverine defense.

The Buckeye defense finished the job, allowing the team to post its fourth win in a row, the seventh of the season. Ohio State has five losses, all by just one goal. One was in overtime, two in double overtime. Four of the five were to teams ranked in the Top 20.

Buckeye goaltender Maddie Stevens has been in the net for all seven wins. Sunday’s effort was her fifth shutout of the season. She has a stellar mark of 1.11 goals against average (per game) and a save percentage of 0.731.

Next up for Ohio State is a trip to East Lansing to take on the Michigan State Spartans (3-9, 0-4) next Sunday. The action gets underway at noon and can be seen on the Big Ten+ network.
