The Central Ohio area continued its success in the OHSAA tournament once again this year with medalists in four of the five divisions and team titles in three.
Olentangy senior Meadow Tian captured the Division I girls championship, while Dublin Jerome junior Brady Barnum was the medalist in Division I boys play at Akron’s Firestone Country Club, finishing on Oct. 13. The Jerome girls and boys squads won the team titles.
For the girls, it was their eighth crown in school history, the second in the past three seasons. A young team, the Celtics were led by sophomore Nikitha Suresh, who placed fifth overall. Sophomores Adella Pawlowski and Mallory Quickel finished in a tie for 11th. They topped second place Rocky River Magnificant by 12 strokes.
Led by Barnum’s performance, the Jerome boys squeaked by St. Charles by two shots. The Cardinals were paced by junior Harry Hadden, who finished fourth. The Celts first-place effort including outstanding play from junior Evan Menges (seventh), senior Trent Thompson (10th), and Blake Hartman (13th).

In the Division II girls competition at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Columbus Academy won its fourth consecutive title behind senior Eva Lim’s medalist performance. It was Lim’s second straight state championship. She won by one stroke in just one of the scheduled two rounds. The second day, Oct. 7, was rained out.
The Vikings, who beat second-place Madeira by 10 shots, clinched the state crown with the help of senior Nala Chebli (eighth) and junior Meera Srini (25th). Newark Catholic senior Caylee Lattimer finished in 16th.
Buckeye Valley senior Sam Reynolds was the medalist for the Division II boys at NCR Country Club in Kettering on Oct. 6. He shot a 72 (+2) to win by three strokes. The Barons finished second in the team competition, trailing champion Kettering Alter by just two strokes. It was the highest finish in state competition for Buckeye Valley.
