Prior to the start of the Columbus Blue Jackets’ game at Calgary Wednesday, the Flames recognized veteran Nazem Kadri for playing the 1,000th game of his storied NHL career. Within the first 1:32 after the start of the contest, the Flames continued the momentum with two goals en route to a 5-1 win.

The Blue Jackets narrowed the lead in the first period to 2-1 when Kirill Marchenko scored a shorthanded goal off a long pass from Boone Jenner. Marchenko found himself alone in front of Calgary goaltender Dustin Wolf and buried the wrist shot. After that, it was all Flames.

In the second period, two Calgary goals, including one from Kadri, came on a pair of 2-on-1 breakaways. The Blue Jackets had been attacking the net, sometimes with both defensemen, and the Flames took advantage of the Jackets’ inability to rotate players to the blue line to defend a counter attack.

The Flames added an empty-netter in the third period to cap off the dominant victory in front of a full house at the Scotiabank Saddledome. It was the first of four games for Columbus in their first extended road trip of the season. Next up is a game at Vancouver Saturday, which begins at 10:00 p.m. EST.
