Buckeyes sweep Minnesota State on ice

The Ohio State women’s hockey team (11-1-0, 9-1-0) were back at the OSU Ice Rink this weekend, playing the Minnesota State Mavericks (6-7-1, 2-7-1) in a WCHA matchup. The Buckeyes won Friday, 5-2, and completed the sweep with a 7-3 victory Saturday.

On Friday, Hilda Svensson scored twice for Ohio State, with goals from Emma Peschel, Sloane Matthews, and Sanni Vanhanen rounding out the offensive effort. Goaltender Taylor Kressin picked up the win stopping 17 shots.

Seven different Buckeyes scored a goal each in Saturday’s victory. Peschel and Matthews recorded scores for the second straight day, while Joy Dunne, Sara Swiderski, Jocelyn Amos, Maxine Cimoroni, and Jordan Baxter also got on the board. Hailey MacLeod was in goal for OSU and earned the win with 17 saves.

The Buckeyes are atop the WCHA, a win ahead of Wisconsin (12-1-1, 8-1-1). Ohio State travels to Duluth, Minn. next weekend for a pair of games against the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (10-4-0, 6-4-0). The Bulldogs swept St. Thomas at home this weekend.
