Buckeye women's hockey takes DC by storm

The #2-ranked Ohio State women’s hockey team (15-1-0) was in Washington, D.C. this weekend for two games in the D1 in DC Tournament. The Buckeyes won both non-conference contests, beating Clarkson, 8-0, Friday and Colgate, 5-0, Saturday. Clarkson (10-6-1) and Colgate (8-9-1) are both members of ECAC Hockey.

In Friday’s matchup, Hilda Svensson paced Ohio State with a hat trick. The freshman from Oskarshamn, Sweden leads the Buckeyes with 31 points in 16 games played (12 goals, 19 assists). Kassidy Carmichael had two goals against the Golden Knights, with Macy Rasmussen, Joy Dunne, and Sanni Vanhanen adding scores.

On Saturday, Carmicheal and Vanhanen each had two goals against the Raiders. Both are freshman, Carmichael from Westford, Mass. and Vanhanen from Tampere, Finland. Jordan Baxter also recorded a score. 

Two different OSU goaltenders recorded shutout wins. Against Clarkson, Hailey MacLeod stopped all nine shots that came her way to earn her ninth win and her second shutout. Genny Klein made 17 saves against Colgate to post her second win of the season.

The Buckeyes return home for a key tandem of WCHA games with the #1-ranked Wisconsin Badgers. Friday’s game at OSU Ice Rink gets underway at 6:00 p.m., while Saturday’s contest begins at 3:00 p.m. Both games can be seen on Big Ten+.
