The Ohio State men’s basketball team (9-3, 1-1 Big Ten) headed to its Christmas break with an 89-63 win over Grambling State (5-7, 0-0 SWAC) Tuesday at Value City Arena. The Buckeyes led 39-24 at the halftime break and put 50 points on the board in the second half to cruise to the non-conference victory.
Reynoldsburg native John Mobley Jr. led all scorers with 20 points, including 15 points on 5-8 shooting beyond the arc. Four other Ohio State players scored in double figures – Bruce Thornton (18), Pickerington Central alum Devin Royal (16), Amare Bynum (12), and Christoph Tilly (10).
Bynum missed a double-double by just one rebound, grabbing nine in his 31 minutes on the floor. Mobley Jr. also paced the Buckeyes with four assists. The top player off the Ohio State bench was Brandon Noel, a Chillicothe grad, who posted six points, three rebounds, and three assists in 23 minutes.
The Buckeyes return to conference play after the holidays, heading to Rutgers (6-6, 0-2 Big Ten) to take on the Scarlet Knights on Fri., Jan. 2. The tip-off at Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, N.J. is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. The game can be seen on Peacock.
