This season in the NHL, the last place a team wants to play is at Ball Arena in Denver. Going into their game with the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday, the Avalanche were 18-0-2 at home in 20 starts. They kept that streak alive Saturday, blanking the Blue Jackets, 4-0, behind goaltender Trent Miner, who earned his first NHL win.

The loss was Columbus’s fourth straight, the third in their latest road trip. Elvis Merzlikins was in goal for the Blue Jackets for the first time since December 20 in a loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Jet Greaves had started eight straight times after that. Merzlikins, playing against the NHL’s hottest team, stopped 27 of 31 shots.

Other than goals, most of the game statistics were relatively even between the two teams. In fact, the only lopsided category was hits, which the Blue Jackets led 18-6. Unfortunately, that stat didn’t allow them to get a score on the board.

The Avalanche were paced by veteran Brett Burns, who scored the first and final goals for Colorado. In-between, Victor Olofssen and Ilya Solovyov added tallies. Former Jacket Gavin Brindley, who was traded to the Avalanche for Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood prior to the season, posted two assists.

Columbus will try to salvage one game on this four-game road trip in a contest at Utah Sunday. The puck will drop at the Delta Center at 7:00 p.m. EST.
