Buckeye women's hoops rally for win over #9 TCU

The #12-ranked Ohio State women’s basketball team (17-2, 7-1 Big Ten) was in Newark, N.J. Monday to take on the #9 TCU Horned Frogs as part of the Coretta Scott King Classic at the Prudential Center. After trailing the entire first half, the Buckeyes rallied to win their sixth game in a row, 71-69.

Ohio State took its first lead of the game, 45-44, with 59 seconds left in the third quarter on a layup from Elsa LemmilÀ. TCU rallied and were up 49-47 at the end of the frame. The teams exchanged the lead throughout the fourth quarter, with the Horned Frogs taking a 66-65 lead with 1:25 remaining in regulation.

With just 15 seconds left, a three-pointer from Chance Gray put the Buckeyes on top 70-66. The Frogs’ Veronica Sheffey made a trey with five seconds left to cut the OSU margin to one point. Jaloni Cambridge was fouled with under a second on the clock and made one of two free throws for the win.

Gray paced Ohio State with 22 points, going 6-8 from beyond the arc. The Buckeyes’ leading scorer this season, Jaloni Cambridge, had 18 points, while LemmilĂ€ added 17 and led OSU with seven rebounds. Cambridge had a team-high eight assists. LemmilĂ€ had seven blocks and five assists, both career highs.

The Buckeyes return to the Schottenstein Center Thursday for a Big Ten matchup against the Indiana Hoosiers (11-8, 0-7 Big Ten). The game tips off at 8:00 p.m. and can be seen on Peacock.
