The #13-ranked Ohio State men’s volleyball team (4-2, 0-0 MIVA) was in Los Angeles Thursday for the first of two matches against top five teams. First up was the #1-ranked UCLA Bruins (8-0, 2-0 MPSF) at Pauley Pavilion.
While falling 3-0 to the Bruins, the teams set an NCAA record in their second set for number of games played. UCLA ended up winning that set 48-46, topping the record of 88 games (45-43) in a match between Grand Canyon and BYU in 2021.
Ohio State’s Shane Wetzel led all players with 19 kills and had a team-high 10 digs. Stanislaw Chacinski added 11 kills and seven digs. Setter Daniel Henwood Rodriguez paced the Buckeyes with 43 assists.
UCLA remains undefeated on the season. The Bruins have lost only one set in their eight outings, a 25-22 first set loss to #10 Ball State in Phoenix at the First Point Collegiate Challenge on Jan. 17.
Ohio State is back at it Friday as they take on the #4-ranked USC Trojans (4-0, 1-0 MPSF) at the Galen Center beginning at 10:00 p.m. The match can be seen on Big Ten+.
