The #9-ranked Ohio State men’s lacrosse team (5-0, 0-0 Big Ten) remained undefeated with a 13-5 win Saturday over the visiting High Point Panthers (1-2, 0-0 Big South). Garrett Haas paced the Buckeyes with a career-high five goals, while Liam White added four in the victory.
OSU put 24 shots on goal, while limiting the Panthers to just 12 shots at the Buckeye net. The Buckeye defense forced High Point into 22 turnovers. In a category that HPU’s Luca Accardo usually dominates, Ohio State’s Jack Oldman and Matt Mayfield combined to win 10 of 21 faceoff battles.

“Well, we wanted to try to throw two looks at them, and I thought with Mayfield and Oldman, we had two different styles there,” said Buckeye head coach Nick Myers. “Our wing plays were slightly different in each lineup. Thought we mixed and matched (well).”
OSU started quickly, scoring four times in the first quarter and taking a 9-1 lead going to the locker room at half time. The fast pace seemed to suit the Buckeyes, but Myers addressed how pace can be a tricky thing.
“We want to be able to pace and play fast and slow. We want to be able to grind at times and we want to be able to open it up at times. And I thought there were moments of all those things today,” he noted.

Caleb Fyock, a veteran in the Buckeyes’ net, has now recorded a win in all of the Ohio State outings so far this season. He has a goals against average of 5.94 and a save percentage of .600. Haas leads OSU with 24 points in the team’s five games and Alex Marinier has a team-high 14 goals.
Myers was especially happy with his defense, which forced a number of shot clock violations. What made the effort successful?
“I think the voices,” he said. “I mean, hearing the guys, multiple slides in a possession, changing matchups, handling some of their key guys. So I just felt like we knew we needed to play with seven and I thought the connectivity of that group really showed.”
The Buckeyes head to Washington, D.C. for their next contest, taking on the Georgetown Hoyas (1-1, 0-0 Big East) next Saturday at noon.
