The Columbus Clippers put a complete game together Saturday at Worcester’s Polar Park and came away with a 7-0 win. Rorik Maltrud went six scoreless innings and earned his first Triple-A win. Here are our three takeaways from Saturday’s game:
1. Kahlil Watson has been ready to break out at the plate. On Saturday, he did just that, hitting two home runs and a triple against the WooSox. The 22-year-old, who was the first-round pick of the then Florida Marlins in 2021, also had a season-best four RBIs and scored twice.
2. It was Maltrud’s third start of the season. The 26-year-old was looking for his first decision Saturday. The right-hander was signed by Cleveland in 2024 out of the University of Missouri. He started 19 games for the Akron RubberDucks in 2025, going 4-3 with an ERA of 4.38. This season, he is now 1-0 with an ERA of 3.07 in 14.2 innings.
3. Shortstop Kevin Rivas was called up to Columbus from Akron yesterday and has yet to see any action. The switch-hitter was signed by Cleveland out of the Dominican Republic in 2019 when he was 16 years old. He came to the U.S. in 2023 and has moved up through the ranks, playing mostly for Lake County last season at the Single-A level.
