The Capital softball team (18-17, 7-9 OAC) took two from their arch-rivals, the Otterbein Cardinals (11-27, 2-14 OAC), in the final regular season action for both squads. The Comets won 8-4 and 5-1 in Westerville to nab the coveted Oar and clinch a spot in the OAC’s post-season tournament.

Junior Audrey Thomas, a Lakewood alum, paced Capital at the plate, with a triple and three RBIs. Senior Reagan Irons was 4-for-6 with a double, sacrifice fly, and two runs batted in. Sophomore Shelby Allen chipped in with three hits and two runs scored.

In the second game, starter Alyssa Miller, a sophomore from Jonathan Alder, picked up her ninth win of the season, going five innings and allowing only one run on three hits, while striking out five.

Another sophomore, Mount Vernon’s Addi Parker, earned the save in the second contest after winning the opener. All in all, Parker threw six innings Saturday. She gave up two runs on six hits and struck out three.

With the sweep, the Comets clinched the No. 6 seed in the OAC Tournament, which will be held on the campus of Mount Union, the conference’s regular season champions. Capital will play No. 3 seed Baldwin Wallace on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Alliance.
