The Ohio State (24-21, 13-11 B1G) baseball team swept its weekend series against the #16-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers (34-14, 17-7 B1G) with scores of 2-1, 7-3, and 10-1  at Bill Davis Stadium.

The wins put the Buckeyes in seventh place in the Big Ten, giving them a great chance to make the 12-team tournament with just six conference games remaining. The Bucks host Michigan State next weekend and travel to Michigan the week after that for two three-game sets.

The Big Ten tournament takes place in Omaha, Neb. from May 19 through May 24. Nebraska moved from second to third in the 17-team slate (Wisconsin does not field a baseball team). UCLA leads the Big Ten with a conference record of 24-0, with Oregon now in 2nd place at 17-6.

This weekend, the Buckeyes got better and better over the three days in Columbus. On Friday, they took a 2-0 lead into the ninth inning and allowed a single run, but no more, to come away with the win. Sophomore Gavin Kuzniewski went eight+ innings, allowing the Huskers run on just four hits to record his fourth win of the season.

On Saturday, Ohio State scored three runs in the first inning and didn’t look back, countering each time Nebraska got a tally on the board. Junior Mason Eckleman powered the Buckeye offense with a double, triple, and home run, just a single shy of hitting for the cycle.

The series wrapped up Sunday, with the Buckeyes feasting at the plate. Ohio State posted seven home runs, including two each from Eckleman and grad student Noah Furcht. Junior starter Pierce Herrenbruck tossed seven innings and gave up just one run on five hits and did not walk a batter.

Before hosting Michigan State next weekend, the Buckeyes have a non-conference contest with the Miami RedHawks (32-15, 19-8 MAC) on Tuesday at Bill Davis Stadium beginning at 6:00 p.m.
