The Columbus Blue Jackets kept rolling Tuesday at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., blanking the New Jersey Devils 3-0. All of the Blue Jackets’ goals came in the third period in a tightly-contested matchup. Columbus goaltender Elvis Merzlikins made 24 saves en route to his first shutout of the season.

It was the Jackets’ sixth consecutive victory, the tenth in their last 11 outings, including two shutouts. In addition to Merzlikins’ performance Tuesday, the other half of the team’s goaltending tandem, Jet Greaves, stoned the Dallas Stars in a 1-0 Columbus win on January 22.

On Tuesday, the teams were tied 0-0 after two periods. Dante Fabbro, who was back in the lineup after missing six games with a foot injury, got the Blue Jackets on the board at the 5:24 mark of the third when he played a rebound at the right point and sent a wrist shot past Devils’ goalie Jacob Markstrom.

Mathieu Olivier scored the next two goals for Columbus. With 7:55 left, Olivier took a pass from Cole Sillinger and made a backhander on a breakawy to put the Jackets up 2-0.

The final goal came with four minutes remaining, when Olivier was poised to add an empty-netter on another breakaway, but a slashing penalty on Dougie Hamilton from behind was called and the goal was awarded. Olivier now has eight tallies on the season.

The Blue Jackets remain four games out of third place in the Metro Division, behind the New York Islanders who beat Pittsburgh in overtime Tuesday. Columbus, however, has played two fewer games than the Isles.

The Jackets have one more game before the break for the Winter Olympic Games. They return home Wednesday to play the Chicago Blackhawks who they beat 4-2 at the United Center last Friday. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
