The Columbus Blue Jackets have selected Boston College forward Oscar Hemming with the 14th overall selection in the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft, club general manager Don Waddell announced tonight.
Hemming, 17, registered one goal and seven assists, 34 shots on goal, and an “even” plus/minus rating in 19 games at Boston College in the Hockey East this past season. He was named the league’s Rookie of the Week on February 9 after notching two assists against Harvard on February 2.
The 6-4, 198-pound forward split the 2024-25 campaign between Kiekko-Espoo’s U20 and U18 teams in the SM-Sarja league in Finland, collecting 2-8-10 in 18 games with the junior team and 35-28-63 in 31 contests with the U18 club. He added 3-6-9 in 13 playoff games while helping the junior squad earn a silver medal in the league championships.
A native of Vaasa, Finland, Hemming suited up for his country at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, notching 4-2-6 in five games. His older brother, Emil, was selected in the first round, 29th overall, by the Dallas Stars at the 2024 NHL Draft. Their father, Jonas, had a 16-year professional career in Europe.
