The Columbus Clippers hosted the Memphis Redbirds in a Business Day matchup at Huntington Park Wednesday and came away with a 2-1 victory.

The starters for both clubs performed well. Memphis’s Michael McGreevy went six innings and did not allow a run on two hits, striking out five. The Clippers’ Will Dion gave up one run on four hits in his 3.1 innings of work and struck out seven.

Once again, the Columbus relief corps performed well, keeping the margin at 2-1 through the top of the eighth inning. Tanner Burns and Eli Morgan combined for four shutout innings, allowing only three hits.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Clippers got all the offensive output they would need. Myles Straw stroked a pinch-hit double to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Juan Brito hit a towering home run to right field, his 14th of the season, to take a 2-1 lead.

Anthony Gose (5-4), who had registered the final out of the eighth inning, tossed a perfect ninth inning, including strikeouts of the final two batters, and earned the win. The loss was pinned on the Redbirds’ Kyle Leahy (0-3).

Columbus and Memphis will play the third of their six-game series Wednesday at Huntington Park beginning at 7:05 p.m. The Clippers will be looking to win their fourth straight contest.
