The Ohio State baseball team (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten) opened its season in Pensacola, Fla. with three games this weekend against St. Louis University (0-3, 0-0 Atlantic 10). The Buckeyes won 7-1 Friday and then took two from the Billikens, 3-2 and 7-3, Saturday at Blue Wahoos Stadium, home of the Miami Marlins’ Double-A affiliate.

In Friday’s win, Ohio State had only one extra-base hit, a triple from Maddix Simpson, but posted seven runs with a balanced attack. Leadoff hitter Lee Ellis and CJ Reid each knocked in two runs. Grove City’s Zac Zigman earned the win for the Buckeyes, going five innings in relief and allowing a run on seven hits.

In Saturday’s doubleheader, OSU’s offense was paced by Miles Vandenheuvel, an Eastern Arizona transfer, who went 3-for-6 with four runs batted in. Reid added two more RBIs, both in the second game.

Chris Domke picked up the win in the first game Saturday, going the final three innings and blanking the Billikens on one hit. In the nightcap, six different pitchers took the hill for the Buckeyes with starter Jude Fisher collecting the victory, allowing just one run on four hits in his five innings of work.

Ohio State heads to Memphis, Tenn. for the Grind City Classic next weekend to play two games each against the Memphis Tigers (2-2, 0-0 AAC) and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (4-1, 0-0 Sun Belt).
