The Ohio State softball team (13-4-1) played the #11-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (18-2) in Athens Sunday and came away with a 7-0 win. The Buckeyes scored all seven of their runs in the second inning.
Sophomore catcher Jasmyn Burns led off the scoring with a solo home run, her team-leading sixth of the season. Left fielder Hadley Parisien, a sophomore transfer from Miami University, hit a two-run homer to build the lead.
Ohio State then loaded the bases and senior second baseman Kaitlyn Farley cleared them with her fourth double of the campaign. She now has 14 runs batted in. Burns, up for the second time in the inning, knocked in Farley for the final run of the game for her team-best 19th RBI.
Freshman pitcher Lorin Boutte (7-2) went all the way for the Buckeyes. Boutte gave up only two hits and three walks, while striking out five. It was her third complete game and second shutout this season. She has 54 strikeouts in 42.1 innings pitched.
After playing their first 18 games on the road, the Buckeyes return to Columbus next weekend to begin their longest homestand of the season. OSU will host a tournament with Texas, Merrimack, Kent State, Oakland, and Saint Francis (Pa.) this Friday through Monday at Buckeye Field.
