The Ohio State men’s volleyball team (11-9, 6-4) traveled to Chicago Thursday for a MIVA match against the Loyola Ramblers (16-2, 8-2). The Buckeyes had won five straight coming into the contest, but as happened in Columbus earlier this season, Loyala fell to the Buckeyes in the first set, but then won three straight for the victory.
OSU dominated the first set, leading throughout, and posted a 25-21 score to get the match started. The Buckeyes kept things close after that but couldn’t establish a lead, falling 25-19, 26-24, and 25-22.
The Buckeyes were once again paced by freshman Stanislaw Chacinski, who had 18 kills on 31 total attempts. Chacinski is second to junior Shane Wetzel in total kills this season and leads the team with a .370+ hitting percentage.
Freshman setter Daniel Henwood Rodriguez led the Buckeyes with 38 assists and only one error. Wetzel had a solid match with 13 kills, seven digs, and a service ace. Freshman Drew Hudson also had seven digs and Rodriguez had a team-high three service aces.
The Buckeyes remain in Illinois for a MIVA tilt with Lewis University Saturday in Romeoville. It gets underway at 6:00 p.m. EDT and can be seen on Lewis University’s YouTube Channel.
