The #4-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team beat the #14 Vanderbilt Commodores, 4-1, Saturday at the Auer Tennis Complex on the OSU campus to capture an NCAA Super Regional title.Â
The Buckeyes picked up the doubles point out of the gate with wins from the teams of Flora Johnson/Luciana Perry and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev/Audrey Spencer. Hephzibah Oluwadare and Teah Chavez were up in their match but did not need to finish.
In the singles matches, Ohio State got two-set wins from Ciss-Ignatiev and Nao Nishino. On the #1 court, Chavez prevailed in three sets to close out the team victory. The Bucks are now 26-4 on the season, 15-1 at home.
The final three rounds of the NCAA Championship will be held in Athens, Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Ohio State will face #11 seed Pepperdine in a quarterfinal match on Friday, May 15.
Ohio State is making its third Elite Eight appearance after back-to-back trips in 2016 and 2017. The semi-finals will be held on Saturday, May 16 with the championship match scheduled for the next day.
