The Ohio State women’s soccer squad opened their season with a match against the Clemson Tigers Thursday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Tigers got on the scoreboard first with a goal from graduate Renee Lyles in the 31st minute on an assist from freshman JuJu Harris. It was Lyles’ 18th career goal.
The Buckeyes, ranked 18th in the country, came back in the second half when junior midfielder Amanda Schlueter scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute. Her unassisted score was the 17th goal of her career. The Union, Kentucky native now has 53 points in her two+ seasons at OSU. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Buckeye goalkeeper Molly Pritchard, a senior from Atlanta, stopped two of the three shots that came her way. It was Pritchard’s 49th start in goal for Ohio State. Last season, she had a goals against average of just 0.86/game. Freshman Sydney Bering, a New Albany grad, saw action in her first contest as a Buckeye, playing 25 minutes.
Ohio State travels to Columbia, S.C. to take on South Carolina this Thursday. The #21-ranked Gamecocks are 2-0 with with wins against the College of Charleston and South Florida. The match at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium gets underway at 7:00 p.m. and can be seen on the SEC Network.
