The Ohio State men’s basketball team trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half against West Virginia Saturday at Cleveland’s Rocket Arena. The Buckeyes went on a 24-8 run to tie the game, setting the stage for a thrilling, two-overtime win over the Mountaineers, 89-88.
Bruce Thornton once again led Ohio State in scoring with 21 points, including the game winning field goal with 3.3 seconds remaining in the second overtime. Amare Bynum and Reynoldsburg native John Mobley Jr. each added 17 points.
Two Buckeyes recorded double-doubles on the evening. Christoph Tilly had 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Pickerington Central alum Devin Royal posted 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tilly paced OSU with five assists.
The Bucks (8-2, 1-1), who won their first six games this season, have only two losses. The first was by one point in a non-conference game at Pittsburgh. The second was an 88-80 home loss to #13-ranked Illinois last Tuesday. Next up for Ohio State is a trip to Atlanta for a game against North Carolina next Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic.
