The Ohio State baseball team (8-16, 2-7) was looking for its first Big Ten win coming into its doubleheader matchup with the No. 10-ranked Oregon Ducks (20-7, 8-4) at Bill Davis Stadium Saturday. Friday’s single game went to the Ducks, 7-0. With rain expected to arrive on Sunday, the schedule was changed to play two on Saturday.

In the opening game, the Buckeyes trailed 10-6 going to the bottom of the seventh inning. Then things went “wild”. Ryan Miller and Mason Eckelman both walked, moved up on wild pitches, and scored on wild pitches. All in all, Oregon pitching threw four wild pitches in the inning and Ohio State trailed by only two.

In the eighth, the Buckeyes scored a run on a throwing error. Later in the frame, after another wild pitch moved runners to second and third, Matthew Graveline singled to drive them in. On the day, Ducks’ hurlers threw six wild pitches and hit four OSU batters. Oregon’s defense committed three errors. The Buckeyes held on to win, 11-10.

In game two, Ohio State took an early lead, but the Ducks came back to take a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning. The Buckeyes pushed four across in the bottom of the sixth on a Lee Ellis sacrifice fly and a three-run blast from Tyler Pettorini. Oregon added a run in the ninth with a solo home run, but the Bucks won 8-6 to gain the sweep.

Hunter Shaw (2-3) tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless relief to close out the first game and earned the win for Ohio State. Reliever Blaine Wynk (1-1) picked up the victory in relief in game two, going the final 3.1 innings and striking out a career-high seven batters.

Next up for the Buckeyes is a non-conference game against West Virginia (22-4, 4-3 Big 12) Tuesday at Bill Davis Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
