On Sunday, the #23-ranked Ohio State softball team combined its ability to hit the long ball with the talent of its young pitching staff to beat Purdue, 2-0, and sweep their three-game series. It was also the day that the Buckeyes recognized their three seniors, Kami Kortakrax, a Bishop Hartley grad, Kaitlyn Farley, and Morgan Frye.
The Bucks high-powered offense was held to just five hits against the Boilermakers, but two of those left the yard. Taylor Cruse went deep in the third inning and Hadley Parisien smashed a solo shot in the fifth. That was all Ohio State would need.
OSU starter Lorin Boutte (18-7) went five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and picked up her 18th win of the season. Reliever Kennedy Kay tossed the final two innings and gave up just one hit to finish out the shutout and earn her first save.
Having extended their winning streak to nine games, the Buckeyes head to the road for their final three contests of the regular season. They’ll be in Urbana-Champaign to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini for a three-game series beginning Friday.
