The Ohio State softball team (24-6-1, 4-1) jumped back into Big Ten play with a road doubleheader against the Michigan State Spartans (9-14, 1-5) Friday in East Lansing. OSU rolled in the first game to an abbreviated five-inning victory, 17-1. In the nightcap, the Buckeyes scored four runs in the top of the seventh to win 7-3.
In the opening contest, the Buckeyes put 11 runs on the board in the third inning. Home runs from Hadley Parisien, Kami Kortakrax, and Taylor Cruse powered the Bucks to the rout. Sami Bewick had three hits for OSU, including her ninth double of the season. Starter Lorin Boutte (11-4) tossed three scoreless innings to earn the win.
The second game was a back-and-forth affair and going into the seventh inning was deadlocked at 3-3. Ohio State hit three home runs in the top of the frame and blanked the Spartans after that for a 7-3 win. The late power came on home runs from Reagan Milliken, Kaitlyn Farley, and Morgan Frye. Milliken now leads the club with 11 homers and 46 runs batted in.
Kennedy Kay (6-2) come on in relief of Lorin Boutte and pitched the final four innings, allowing only one run on two hits and picking up the win. The Buckeyes conclude the scheduled three-game series with the Spartans with a single game Sunday beginning at noon.
