Buffalo surges late for win over Clippers

After winning their series opener in Buffalo Tuesday, the Columbus Clippers fell to the Bisons, 5-2, Wednesday. Buffalo scored three times in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and then hold on for the victory.
The Clippers scored a run in the fourth inning when Brayan Rocchio tripled and then came home on a Buffalo throwing error. They added a second run in the sixth. C.J. Kayfus singled with two outs to drive in Chase DeLauter, who had walked and moved to second on another walk.
Doug Nikhazy started on the mound for Columbus. He went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out eight. The loss went to Parker Mushinski (2-3) who gave up the Bisons’ three runs in the seventh. Franco Aleman tossed a scoreless eighth, striking out three.
The clubs will play Game 3 of the series Thursday beginning at 6:35 p.m. Parker Messick (3-2, 3.08) will get the start for the Clippers. Columbus has listed Austin Peterson as the team’s starter Friday. The 6’6″ right-hander is 4-2 for the Double-A Akron Rubber Ducks with an ERA of 1.47 in 11 starts.
