The Capital women’s basketball team was in New Concord Wednesday night to take on Muskingum in both teams’ first OAC contest of the season. Samaree Perkins made a lay-up and a free throw with one second left to give the Comets a 57-55 road win and stay undefeated through their first seven games.
Capital had a 10-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but the Muskies responded with 20 points in the final frame to take a three-point lead with eight seconds left. A technical foul was assessed right after that against Muskingum and Perkins made two free throws to cut the lead to one.
On the Comets’ ensuing possession, Perkins missed a shot, but got her own rebound. She was able to score off the carom while being fouled and converted on the free throw. The senior from Pittsburgh paced Capital with 19 points in Wednesday’s contest. She is averaging a team-high 22.6 points per game so far this season.
The Comets return to the Capital Center Performance Arena in Bexley for an OAC game against Marietta Saturday. The tip-off against the Pioneers is slated for 3:00 p.m. All of the action can be seen on Flo College.
