High school teams around the Buckeye State begin their football practices this week. We’ve put together a challenging trivia quiz testing fans’ knowledge of Ohio prep gridiron records. We learned a lot!

Marion Local won 76 games in a row from 2021-25, including four state titles (1 in DVI, 3 in DVII). Marion Pleasant is the CBUS-area team with longest streak: 44 from 1969-73.

Kenton boasts the top five passing seasons in Ohio high school history:

#3. What kicker has made the most consecutive extra points in Ohio high school history?
Nathanial Vakos of Avon, now kicking at Wisconsin, made 260 straight extra points from 2018-2021. Justis McClain of Licking Valley has the record for Central Ohio teams with 94 from 2024-2025.
#4. What coach has the most wins Ohio high school football history?
Ron Saccoccia at Steubenville has 449 wins, all with the Big Red. He’ll be back at it in the fall for his 44th season at the helm. Randy Baughman at Licking Valley, who is also active, has 371 victories to lead CBUS-area head coaches.
#5. This Central Ohio team has the most consecutive winning seasons in Ohio high school history.
The West Jefferson Roughriders had 42 consecutive winning seasons from 1958-1999.
#6. What high school football squad recorded the last undefeated, unscored-upon season in the CBUS-area?
Before the high school playoffs began, the Millersport Lakers were unbeaten (10-0) and unscored upon (278-0) in 1965.
#7. What player in Ohio high school football history made the longest drop-kick?
Dude Vickers of Martins Ferry made a 52-yard field goal in 1917 with a drop-kick, which is still permitted.
The last drop-kick made was an extra point by Western Reserve’s Dominic Velasquez on September 30, 2016.
Albert Burger of Minster is recognized as the first soccer style placekicker in Ohio (1951).
#8. The game between which two football opponents witnessed the largest crowd in Ohio high school history?
On November, 23, 1946, Cleveland Cathedral Latin and Cleveland Holy Name played in front of 70,995 fans at Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium.
#9. How many yards is the longest field goal in Ohio high school history?
It’s 61 yards. Both Carey Spear, Mayfield vs. Solon (11/14/2009) and Kevin Harper, Mentor vs. Solon (09/07/2007) accomplished the feat. Poor Solon!
#10. Who has the most career rushing yards in Ohio high school history?
Harvest Prep’s Daniel Bangura, who went on to play at Kent State and North Carolina A&T, ran for 9,650 yards from 2014-2017.
